I think you're missing the audience for a commit, often it's for the developer and them alone, and that's fine.

Who cares about the clutter?

I wrote about this here https://medium.com/codex/you-arent-committed-enough-simple-guidelines-for-git-commit-db4301f45f87 because when dealing with other developers I found they did very few commits and started to wonder why.

These days I write the commit message before starting the work, this has a huge benefit, it keeps me focused.
